Let's face it, getting everything ready and going to a photography session when you have a baby that is probably under two weeks old is a challenge. So if you have scheduled one, it must be important and with so much going on right after giving birth, it is hard to find time to plan much of anything. So here are a couple of tips to help you get the most of your newborn photo session and make it special to your family.

1) Choose the right photographer. By that I mean look at their website and page and make sure that you like what you see and it fits what you want in the end result. If you pick your photographer based soley on price or availability and then try to have them copy someone else's work, you will probably not end up with what you desire. Make sure you like their style of work and make sure they are professionals.

2) If you like their work and style, you can easily turn over the creativity to them. But to make it special to you, try to give them some feedback on things you like. Even if it is just colors, or if you like a dark moody image vs lighter type images.

3) You can also incorporate something from the baby's nursery. Maybe some special stuffy or blanket that incorporates the theme or colors you have chosen for it. Just a small memory from that time and place. But don't overdo it, believe me less is more!

4) I have had many clients bring something very special from their childhood or previous generations, either their parents or grandparents. Examples include, small blankets used by a grandparent or made by one, a grandmothers baby ring that she wore as an infant and another was a beautiful handmade basket made by the baby's grandmother. Not only is this something you will enjoy hanging on your wall to remember but it is something you can share with them when they are older and they will cherish it as well.

5) If nothing else, put yourself in the picture! I promise your baby will cherish that forever!

Hope this helps and if you have any questions or would like to discuss a newborn or other milestone baby session, give me a call!
