Five reasons you should be photographed with your newborn...

Very often, when a parent is scheduling their newborn session, one of the things they seem the most unsure about is whether they want newborn only photos or parent/sibling poses with their newborn. I will say most parents will opt to have siblings photographed with their newborn, but almost half the time parents choose not to be in the session. I know this is often due to being tired, overwhelmed and just not feeling very photogenic and I get it, I do. It can be hard enough, just getting baby ready the day of, let alone trying to coordinate outfits, get yourself and spouse prepped for photos, let alone other children. It's hard, let's face it. But from a perspective of a mom who has been there and didn't, let me give you a word of advice. I am a grandma now, so I can do that! Here are five very good reasons to get in the picture with your newborn.
1) Your baby will treasure that photo forever. My kids love to look back at photos from when they were babies and see what their mom and dad looked like at that time. Believe me, you will too.
2) Perspective! A beautiful portrait of your newborn is priceless, no doubt. But when just baby is in the picture, you just cannot tell how little they really are. Nothing shows that scale like baby in their parents hands.
3) Emotion... Once that baby is born, you go through so many new emotions. Overwhelming love and joy are just a couple. Why not capture those while they are so fresh? It is one of the most beautiful times you will ever experience.
4) Tradition. Most families will eventually start a tradition of an annual family portrait. Get that first one! Start at the beginning!
5) Why not? I know you can come up with so many reasons, but even if you aren't feeling beautiful, you're tired or just had a rough time getting baby ready, no matter what you look like, I promise, that in a few years, you will look back at that photo and be so happy you did it. It's a moment in time you can't bring back. Just do it!
