There are probably as many styles as there are newborn photographers, but it comes down to three basic styles. I will describe each below.
First (I say that because it usually comes first), is fresh 48. This is typically done as it suggests in the first 48 hours of baby's birth. And is mainly meant to capture those moments and feelings of the birth experience. I consider it a documentation of the birth and what Mom, Dad and baby feel and look like during and just after the birth experience. Most of these are done in the hospital, but can also be done at home. I love these because you see all the details of redness of skin, sometimes scratches, flaky skin, all the details of the baby.
Second, is lifestyle. This is usually done in a casual environment at home to reflect the first days and weeks of your baby's life. It is a more casual feel that focuses on the family, baby and baby's environment.
Third, is newborn portrait or fine art portrait. This is where I focus my photography with babies. With this style, the main focus is the baby and their features. This is a more posed style so that the baby's features are front and center typically edited to remove temporary blemishes such as baby acne, flaky skin etc. I love to use this style to make art that you can display and use timelessly to remember what your baby's features were in those fleeting first days of life. It's amazing to look back at these portraits when your child is growing and see those same features and even expressions again and again.
There is no right or wrong style, just the one that best fits what you are looking for, or maybe all three. I think most of us, whether professionally done or not, have a version of these moments captured of our babies. And believe me when I say, they are all priceless.
If you are looking for a newborn photographer in the Summerville, Cane Bay, Moncks Corner, Goose Creek, Ladson or surrounding areas, please take a look at my galleries and see if I may be what you are looking for. I would love to talk with you more about it.
